POSITION STATEMENT FOR PORNOGRAPHY TOPIC
The decisions I have made in my life have determine the direction I want to move and go for all eternity. I know that we are surrounded by evilness, our kids are exposed at a very young age to many undesirable images, Satan knows that if he pollutes the mind of a young man, these images will echo in his mind constantly and the addiction will form at a young age and it will be harder to stop that addiction and leave it. I have always paid very close attention to the programs we watch at home, I always told my son that he should be very careful what he watched because that will determine the path he will go for the rest of his life. I could see as he matured that he started to take wiser decisions on what to watch.I took the decision not to watch pornography because I knew that if I did the rest of my family could fall into that habit too.
"First, a return to righteousness. An understanding of who we are and what God expects us to become will prompt us to pray—as individuals and as families. Such a return reveals the constant truth: “Wickedness never was happiness” (Alma 41:10). Let not the evil one dissuade. We can yet be guided by that still small voice—unerring in its direction and all-powerful in its influence.

Second,
a quest for the good life. I speak not of the fun life, the
sophisticated life, the popular life. Rather, I urge each to seek
eternal life—life everlasting with mother, father, brothers, sisters,
husband, wife, sons, and daughters, forever and forever together.
Third, a pledge to wage and win the war against pernicious permissiveness. As we encounter that evil carrier, the pornography
beetle, let our battle standard and that of our communities be taken
from that famous ensign of early America, “Don’t tread on me” (John
Bartlett, Familiar Quotations, p. 1090)."
"Pornography,
the carrier, is big business. It is Mafia-spawned. It is contagious. It
is addicting. In a study last year, the FBI estimated that Americans
spent 2.4 billion dollars on hard-core pornography. Other estimates reach as high as 4 billion—a fortune siphoned away from noble use and diverted to a devilish purpose!
Apathy toward pornography
stems mostly from a widespread public attitude that it is a victimless
crime and that police resources are better used in other areas. Many
state and local ordinances are ineffective, sentences are light, and the
huge financial rewards far outweigh the risks."
“Pornographic or erotic stories and pictures are worse than filthy or polluted food. The body has defenses to rid itself of unwholesome food. With a few fatal exceptions, bad food will only make you sick but do no permanent harm. In contrast, a person who feasts upon filthy stories or pornographic or erotic pictures and literature records them in this marvelous retrieval system we call a brain. The brain won’t vomit back filth. Once recorded, it will always remain subject to recall, flashing its perverted images across your mind and drawing you away from the wholesome things in life.”
Elder Dallin H. Oaks, "Pornography"
"Here,
brethren, I must tell you that our bishops and our professional
counselors are seeing an increasing number of men involved with pornography, and many of those are active members. Some involved in pornography
apparently minimize its seriousness and continue to exercise the
priesthood of God because they think no one will know of their
involvement. But the user knows, brethren, and so does the Lord.
Some have suggested that pornography
should be a separate question in the temple recommend interview. It is
already. At least five different questions should elicit a confession
and discussion on this subject if the person being interviewed has the
spiritual sensitivity and honesty we expect of those who worship in the
house of the Lord."
"The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth has never been rescinded. It is essential to the plan of redemption and is the source of human happiness. Through the righteous exercise of this power, we may come close to our Father in Heaven and experience a fulness of joy, even godhood. The power of procreation is not an incidental part of the plan; it is the plan of happiness; it is the key to happiness. The desire to mate in humankind is constant and very strong. Our happiness in mortal life, our joy and exaltation are dependent upon how we respond to these persistent, compelling physical desires. As the procreative power matures in early manhood and womanhood, very personal feelings occur, in a natural way, unlike any other physical experience."
Pte. Boyd K. Packer, "The Plan of Happiness"
Pte. Gordon B. Hinckley, "Rise Up O Men of God"
"The battle over man’s God-given agency continues today.
Satan and his minions have their lures all around us, hoping that we will
falter and take his flies so he can reel us in with counterfeit means. He uses
addiction to steal away agency. According to the dictionary, addiction of any
kind means to surrender to something, thus relinquishing agency and becoming
dependent on some life-destroying substance or behavior.
Researchers tell us there is a mechanism in our brain called
the pleasure center. When activated by
certain drugs or behaviors, it overpowers the part of our brain that governs
our willpower, judgment, logic, and morality. This leads the addict to abandon
what he or she knows is right. And when that happens, the hook is set and
Lucifer takes control."
Elder M. Russel Ballard, "O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One"
"If anyone who is addicted has a desire to overcome, then
there is a way to spiritual freedom—a way to escape from bondage—a way that is
proven. It begins with prayer—sincere, fervent, and constant communication with
the Creator of our spirits and bodies, our Heavenly Father. It is the same
principle in breaking a bad habit or repenting from sin of any kind. The
formula for having our heart, our body, our mind, and our spirit transformed is
found in the scriptures."
"The computer is a wonderful instrument when it is properly
used. But when it is used to deal with pornography or so-called chat rooms or
for any other purpose that leads to evil practices or evil thoughts, then there
must be self-discipline enough to turn it off.
The Lord has declared, “Purge ye out the iniquity which is
among you; sanctify yourselves before me” (D&C 43:11). No one can mistake
the meaning of those words."
"Many children, youth, and adults are innocently exposed to
pornography, but a growing number of both men and women are choosing to view it
and are drawn back repeatedly until it becomes an addiction. These individuals
may desire with all of their hearts to get out of this trap but often cannot
overcome it on their own. How grateful we are when these loved ones choose to
confide in us as parents or a Church leader. We would be wise not to react with
shock, anger, or rejection, which may cause them to be silent again."
Linda S. Reeves, "Protection From Pornography"
"Pornography is more vile, evil, and graphic than ever
before. As we counsel with our children, together we can create a family plan
with standards and boundaries, being proactive to protect our homes with
filters on electronic devices. Parents, are we aware that mobile devices with
Internet capacity, not computers, are the biggest culprit?"
